I lived on a certified wildlife habitat on our farm in Indiana before retiring to Puerto Rico mostly wetland herons and birds.

Whisper of the Heron

I remember the stillness of the wetland, though it feels like a dream,

Her face in the grasses, her voice in the stream.

The heron descended, turquoise and near,

Its stillness a comfort, its presence sincere.

She lingers within me, soft as the breeze, 

A spirit of grassy wetland, of roots and of trees.
